The theme of the 78th TI World Conference in 1997 is 'Textiles and the Information Society'. It will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece the 'Cultural City of Europe' for 1997 from 23-26 May.
The scope of the 78th TIWC is to present participants with the latest information on developments concerning all aspects of the textile and associated industries
Organised by the Exporters Association of Northern Greece (SEVE) in association with their 5th Textile Symposium, the conference will focus attention on how the textile, apparel and associated industry can identify and satisfy the complex market requirements by investing in new technology.
The globalisation of the Textile trade has accelerated drastic changes and created an international competitive environment, where information is a prerogative for monitoring developments and seeking of alliances. The theme of the conference will be " Textiles and the Information Society", disseminating critical information society concepts for the Textile Industry.
A major direction will be on applications to the integration in manufacturing domain. New value-adding approaches to product marketing, design and development, will be discussed by the world's leading company executives, scientists and academics. Given the significance of the textile industry in the economies of the region, a special thrust will be the cooperative opportunities between countries in the Balkans and Central and Eastern Europe, with Western Europe. A special internet site will allow participants to continue their discussions in depth for three months after the conference ends.
The scope of the Textile Symposiums, organised by SEVE so far, has been to present the latest technological developments in the cotton and cloth manufacturing sectors of the Textile Industry, thus assisting manufacturers to upgrade product quality, productivity and to create fashion with innovative products. The sessions at the TI's World Conference will encompass such topics and special emphasis will be given to CAD, CAM and CIM technologies in the fields of spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing finishing and designing. TI World Conferences attract participants from some 50 countries and with all continents represented, they are truly international events. Conference themes will cover all branches of textiles including fashion retailing and merchandising; clothing and footwear production and design; growth and application of all fibres. The conference will include both plenary and parallel sessions
An exhibition by machine manufacturers and fibre producers will be organised, in order to support the general theme of the conference. Participants will be informed about new products and processing technologies, with emphasis to CAD, CAM and CIM applications in the different sectors of manufacturing.
Participants are encouraged to meet fellow businessmen in order to exchange experiences and discuss topics of common interest. Representative subcontracting companies from the Balkan countries will stage information offices, presenting to interested participants their potential for co-operation.
